Colour! A new gouache of dahlias has left my studio. This time I was inspired by the cactus dahlia, a form of dahlia flower that has coiled petals and therefore looks prickly but is not. A wondrous shape.
Adding a lot of opaque and semi-transparent layers gave the flowers their radiant appearance.
Besides cactus-shaped flowers in salmon pink (with a coral pink and yellow glow in the centre), this variety (dahlia 'Preference') also has beautiful dark yellow stems.
The blue, turquoise and green in the background make this plant's colours stand out beautifully. The work exudes cheerfulness and vibrancy.
