In the heart of Utrecht, an imposing Chinese dragon meanders through the dark, bathed in light and colour. This photograph captures the animal in a powerful moment, its head raised, its scales glowing in red, gold and purple. The lights along its body light up rhythmically, as if dancing in the darkness. Surrounded by smaller light sculptures and a curious audience, the dragon exudes not only power but also elegance and sophistication. The China Lights Festival here brings Eastern symbolism to life in a typically Dutch setting, and the combination is magical. As a photographer, you get sucked into a play of contrast, movement and atmosphere. This dragon is not just a set piece, it is the fiery heart of the festival.
