stadion van Feijenoord, popularly known as De Kuip, is a football stadium in Rotterdam-South (IJsselmonde). It is a stadium with football history where the professional football club Feijenoord plays its home matches. Driving force behind the construction of this stadium was Feijenoord chairman Leen van Zandvliet, after whom the adjacent square is named. The stadium was designed by architect Leendert van der Vlugt, from the firm of Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. Construction started in 1935 and the stadium was opened on 27 March 1937. Van der Vlugt died in 1936, so he did not live to see the opening.
