This photo of a beautiful deer in the long grass is my favourite from my walk through the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes. It already adorns my wall. The deer full in its antlers, totally relaxed grazing. The colours are right, and because the snout is half hidden in the grass you get the feeling of an intimate glimpse into the deer's wild world. Yet the silhouette is completely visible, it is just completely right.
For a long time I had wanted to go to the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes to take photos of the deer. Finally, the time had come! A hotel stay nearby meant we could be in the area by sunrise. We saw as many as 73 deer during our walk, what a treat!
Passion for photography, where does something like that come from? The beauty is that every photographer will have their own answer. For me it flows out of being able to freeze a moment, step out of the day-to-day rush, and take my time for what I am.. Read more…
