Dewlight Serenity

by Stevin Schothuis

‘Dewlight Serenity’ captures a tranquil moment in which morning light and nature come together in an almost dreamlike composition. In the image, tiny dewdrops glisten on slender blades of grass, whilst the soft backlighting creates sparkling highlights and a subtle haze in the background. The combination of sharp points of light and gentle blurring creates an atmosphere of tranquillity, wonder and an appreciation for the beauty of small details.

The inspiration for this work arose during an early morning moment in nature, when the world still seems still and the first sunlight makes the dewdrops glisten like tiny crystals. It is precisely these fleeting moments that often form the basis of my photography: situations that last only a few seconds before the light changes or the dew disappears.

The image was created by deliberately working with backlighting, a shallow depth of field and a composition centred on light, form and simplicity. This creates an almost painterly quality, with the blades of grass flowing through the image like natural lines.

What makes this work special is the balance between abstraction and recognisability. Up close, you discover the fine details of the dewdrops, whilst from a distance the whole image exudes a serene and calming atmosphere. This makes the work ideal as wall art for an interior where tranquillity, nature and timeless elegance take centre stage.
