A meerkat (or suricate) is digging a hole in the desert. He is facing the camera and looking up into the lens. His tail is on the left behind him and his front paws have a digging motion. He has grains of sand around his eyes and nose.
The photo was taken in Botswana in Africa in a salt pan while I was on safari.
The background of the photo (and therefore the entire background) is soft creamy beige desert sand with dry, yellow dry grass here and there.
The image was photographed in late evening light, giving it a soft warm glow.
