About "Dilapidated alley in the machine heart"

by Marcel Hechler

About the artwork

This photograph shows a narrow, gloomy corridor inside an abandoned paper factory in the Black Forest. The image is particularly haunting due to its monochrome presentation - it emphasises the atmosphere of decay and bygone activity. On the left-hand side, dilapidated brick walls stretch along, partly collapsed, criss-crossed by old pipes. On the right, ivy tendrils cling to the brickwork, a silent testimony to how nature is slowly reclaiming its space. Massive pipes and beams run above the corridor, some of them fallen or rusted through. Leaves, debris and old pieces of technology lie on the floor, as if time itself had left its mark here. In the background, a glimpse of light opens up through an open window and an escape route - as if this had once been the passageway to a busy work area. This scenery offers an impressive insight into the inner workings of a "lost place" and is a real highlight for fans of urban exploration. Every corner here tells stories of industrial history, standstill and slow recapture by nature.
