In a meadow in Iceland where the buttercups are in full bloom, this calf is also in full growth. For me, this work symbolizes the freedom this calf and her mother have in the rugged and unforgiving, yet breathtaking environment of Iceland.
The most beautiful images arise from impulsive ideas. So did this one, where I wanted to capture the freedom of this little family on an evening with beautiful light.
To take this photo with the sun at my back, I first had to compete with the curious cows in a sprint competition for a few hundred meters. They were only too eager to figure out what I was doing, and so happily ran with me, until I finally reached the perfect position for this photo.
What I like most about this photo is that it hardly needed any editing. The light is almost completely natural and I even had to bring down the warm tones a bit. To me, the image of this small family in the blooming meadow is a wonderful representation of the freedom that any creature can experience.
