About ‘Dorset coastline at Lulworth Cove’ by Maarten Hoek

The cliffs on the Dorset and East Devon coast provide an almost continuous series of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous rock formations that span the Mesozoic era and document some 185 million years of Earth's history. The area has a range of important fossil sites. Both vertebrate and invertebrate fossils, marine and terrestrial can be found there. They constitute well-preserved evidence of life during the Mesozoic era. In addition, the site contains textbook examples of coastal geomorphological features, landforms and processes. The coast is regarded by geologists and geomorphologists as one of the most important teaching and research sites in the world.
