Dumbarton Castle is a castle located on the Firth of Clyde near Dumbarton in the West Dunbartonshire region of Scotland. From the fifth century until 1018, Dumbarton Rock was the power centre of the Britons of the kingdom of Strathclyde. Except for two medieval structures, all remaining fortifications and buildings date from the 18th century. Dumbarton is a corruption of Scottish Gaelic Dun Breatann, fort of the Britons.
