About "Egon Schiele Painting"

About the artwork

Realistic acrylic painting in of the Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele featuring his unfinished painting of 3 women, all painted by the Dutch fine artist Paul Meijering, The original painting is part of a permanent collection.

Schiele's father was head of the railways as well as his grandfather, as was Schiele's later guardian, who was an engineer there. Schiele made train journeys and drawings of trains for fun and, as late as the age of 23, played with a toy train, imitating all the sounds involved. His father, driven mad by syphilis, died when Schiele was 15. A sister had also died young and two children were born lifeless in the family. The relationship between Schiele and his mother was difficult and seemingly loveless. With his sister Gerti, Schiele had an incestuous contact.

Against the wishes of his mother and his guardian, Schiele attended art school in Vienna, where he achieved mediocre results. Schiele was influenced by Gustav Klimt and his Sezession movement.

Between 1911 and 1915, Schiele had a relationship with Wally Neuzil. Because they lived together unmarried, they were expelled from Krumau and moved to Neulengbach, near Vienna. A scandal arose there too, because Schiele had very young girls pose nude as models. Drawings of masturbating young girls came into the public eye.

In April 1912, he was arrested for seducing a 13-year-old girl and Schiele spent some time in prison. In 1915, Schiele ended his relationship with Wally to marry Edith Harms in the same year. Soon after, Schiele had to enter military service because of World War I. He got an office job and was able to keep in touch with Edith.

On 28 October 1918, Edith died of Spanish flu, she was six months pregnant at the time. Three days later, Schiele died of the same illness, only 28 years old.
