Since 1727, the water level at the Magdeburger Strombrücke has been measured with a staff gauge. Since the construction of the Elbe bridge, a gauge house has been located on the western bank wall. The water level in the gauge house is basically the same as in the Elbe river. The movement of the water level is detected by a float and mechanically converted into a rotary movement and continuously stored in digital form and forwarded by remote data transmission.
