A portrait of an Emerald Tree Boa. The Emerald Tree Boa is found in parts of South America. It is a typical tree-dweller, curling up on a branch or treetop, waiting for prey animals. During the day, the snake lies dormant in a tree, and at night it hunts birds and bats, as well as lizards and small mammals. It is one of the fastest species of boa, not only on land but also swimming in water. The snake can bite and has sharp teeth, but is not venomous.
