My encounter with the The Esculaapslang came about when it tried to crawl past during a rainstorm. The snake has been used as a symbol because it can shed its skin which represents rebirth and healing. This non-poisonous snake did me no harm even when it stuck out its tongue to test if the coast was safe to leave. He was not in too much of a hurry as it was quite cold at the time. Sometimes they do wake up in autumn and go exploring. All snakes are actually fassinating to meet. Nice to know, though, is that this snake is the Escula Monkey that can be encountered at e.g. GPs. This symbol goes back to Greek mythology.
