The Euromast was the occasion of the Floriade in 1960 by architect Hugh Maaskant and contractor JP of Eesteren put down in the park , near the entrance of the Maas Tunnel . The building was officially opened by Princess Beatrix on March 25, 1960 . The location was strategically chosen , who drove to Rotterdam on the then highways , saw (including flagpole ) 107 meter high tower protruding right above the city . But the city grew and the buildings were higher. After a few years there rose above the buildings from Euromast .
In 1970, a 85 meter high building placed on the Euromast , the Space Tower , which the Euromast was the tallest building in Rotterdam again . The tower now has a total height of 185 meters . Visitors can take the Euro Coop , an elevator that is glazed from the Europscoopdek at 112 meters to the highest point at 180 meters . Visitors are taken to the original highest point with two elevators that take two to four meters per second
