Lake Titisee is located in the southern Black Forest in the municipality of Titisee-Neustadt at an altitude of around 845 metres. It is considered one of the most beautiful and best-known lakes in Germany.
Lake Titisee was formed at the end of the last ice age around 10,000 to 15,000 years ago. At that time, a glacier from the Feldberg region moved down into the valley and formed a deep hollow through its erosive force. As the climate became warmer and the glacier melted, this hollow filled with meltwater. This created a so-called tongue basin lake - a typical landscape form created by glacial movements. Lake Titisee is around two kilometres long, one kilometre wide and up to 40 metres deep.
Today, Lake Titisee is an important destination for tourists from Germany and abroad. Here you can see the view from the south-west from the B 500.
