The Begijnhof is one of Amsterdam's oldest and quietest courtyards, located in the heart of the city.

The Begijnhof was originally founded in the 14th century as a community for beguines, women who led semi-religious, semi-monastic lives without taking formal vows. The beguines were dedicated to serving the poor and sick, and the Beguinage provided them with housing and a place to practice their faith.

The Begijnhof boasts a collection of well-preserved historic buildings, including some of the oldest wooden houses in Amsterdam. Notable architectural highlights in the courtyard are the English Church and the Beguinage Chapel.
