This work is an interplay of lines, patterns and figures inspired by the beautiful shapes and textures found in our everyday environment and the nature around us. The coming together of heaven and earth, of air, land and water in a playful way.
Zentangle is a form of art in which these, often at first sight invisible patterns are made visible. From small scribbles and doodles, a flowing interplay of lines emerges, filled with both natural and geometric planes and patterns.
When viewing this work from some distance, an eye can be detected that represents your view of the world and your surroundings. At first, things may seem immediately clear, but by looking longer you often discover surprising new sides or your environment turns out to be constructed completely differently from what you have always thought or believed. Small elements come together and form a new whole, which in turn is part of a larger whole.
When making this drawing, I started with a small sketch on paper with fineliner, which I built up from both thin and thick lines. I then turned this sketch into a digital drawing and developed it further. For this, I use a digital drawing pen, ensuring pen strokes and small irregularities. This intuitive and intensive way of working creates a unique work of art with a character all its own.
