I find the infinity of the universe fascinating. What's floating around out there? Can stars and planets explode? Do they then live on as lots of little planets, or do the debris just float around?
When a planet explodes, I imagine beautiful, deep colors. A planet that can still repair itself.
For this painting I used the dirty pour technique. One that I always find exciting, because you can't always control what the end result will be. That's why this technique remains so challenging and interesting.
Painting gives me a feeling of joy, of freedom, of relaxation. As soon as I put a snow white, new canvas on the easel, I only think about the canvas. What shall I make, what inspiration do I have? I like variety, I have many interests. That diversity is also reflected in the different techniques and colours I use. Some people find this confusing. I love that confusion, it gives color to many subjects.
The beauty of painting is that I use very expressive and exuberant colors. They really make a statement. Unlike me in my daily life, I prefer a modest and unpretentious attitude towards my own achievements. A nice contrast with my paintings.
I love positivity and authenticity. Colour gives me the opportunity to look at the world in a different way.
I have been painting all my life. When I was 12 years old I already had the oil paint brush in my hand and made all kinds of small paintings. Only when I was older I discovered watercolour painting and I surprised my sister José with a private edition of our book "Child Thoughts". In it I illustrated José's poems with watercolours. Her poems are about the capacity for wonder. Publisher Terra picked this up and together with José we published the book "Between Colour and Broken Light", of which more than 1000 copies were sold.
