This is a portrait of one of the lion brothers from Brothers in Arms, captured during a rare moment of stillness in the chaos of a territorial war. His eyes are open and fixed directly on the lens — intense, unflinching, and unwavering.
At the time this was taken, six different males were clashing for control of the region. Coalitions were shifting, boundaries being tested, and this brother was in the centre of it all. And yet, in this frame, he is calm. Present. Entirely aware.
There’s no roar, no drama — just quiet strength. The image speaks to the kind of leadership that doesn’t need to posture. The kind of presence that holds the line without saying a word.
This moment was captured in the heart of the Luangwa Valley, during a period where everything was in flux. The goal was to document not just action, but emotion — the inner world of these animals that so often goes unseen.
