The onion is generally quite boring to look at. It is little more than a uniformly coloured bulb. Nevertheless, I personally think that a sprouted onion has something to it. By sprouting, the bare bulb suddenly changes into a plant with a look more suited to its taste. The orange bulb with the green stems give the onion character.
The onion is a bulbous plant and belongs to the daffodil family. Its special feature is that in the warmer seasons, food is stored in the bulb so that the onion can get through the winter with its own supply. Think of it as a kind of hibernation. Because the onion grows under the ground and contains a lot of sugar, the bulb will also not freeze easily in winter. The onion is therefore well equipped for our climate.
Fruits and vegetables are often depicted in still lifes. The onion also often features in them.
Take some time to look at a drained onion. The onion is more beautiful than you see at first sight.
