Once the building was completed, many New Yorkers believed it would collapse due to the air currents along the building created by its sharp triangular shape. The building did not collapse, but another phenomenon did emerge. The 'falling winds' along the sides of the building blew up the women's skirts. The place became notorious for peeping men, which is why more policemen were deployed on the streets around the building.
