Floating state by Emanuel Cuisinier

This painting presents a fascinating mixture of abstract painting and surreal, geometric elements. The dominant colours are intense shades of blue, white and black, giving the work a cool, almost icy or watery atmosphere. The background is characterised by broad, expressive brushstrokes reminiscent of stormy clouds or churning water, suggesting an impressionist or expressionist style.

In the centre are several spherical objects that look like a collection of balls or molecules. These spheres are conspicuously marked with a black and white chequerboard pattern divided into two halves - a dark and a light side. This pattern often symbolises duality, contrast, order and chaos or the binary nature of existence.

Two other bright blue spheres flank the central arrangement. These seem to reflect the surroundings - the blue sky or the water - and appear almost like glowing planets or soap bubbles floating in the chaotic environment.

The work is an exploration of opposites (light/shadow, order/chaos) within a dynamic, emotionally charged environment. The chequerboard pattern spheres could stand for fixed structures or decisions that exist amidst the fluid, unstable reality (represented by the blue and texture). It conveys a sense of surreal tension and visual depth.

The mood is cool, enigmatic and slightly menacing, but at the same time meditative. There is a sense of limbo, isolation and strategic rigidity, as if everything is in a moment of imminent decision or collapse.
