Florence, a wonderful city! The atmosphere is fantastic and nice and relaxed. Surely the highlight of Florence is this dome. The Duomo is the fourth largest cathedral in Europe and stands in the historic center of Florence.
Few architects dared to take on the biggest task of crafting the dome of the Duomo di Firenze. Therefore, a competition was organized to design the dome. Spurred by this challenge, Filippo Brunelleschi designed a construction technique that allowed him to build a dome larger than any dome of the time. At 115 meters high, it is also today one of the largest vaults in the world.
Truus Nijland is a passionate photographer who has a penchant for abandoned buildings such as castles, monasteries, churches and industrial locations.
