About "Flower Power Hippie Lion | Pop Art"

by Frank Daske | Foto & Design

About the artwork

Flower Power is a catchphrase that was used in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a symbol of passive resistance and non-violence. It has its roots in the opposition movement against the Vietnam War. The term was coined by American beat poet Allen Ginsberg in 1965 to transform war protests into peaceful affirmative spectacles. Hippies adopted the symbolism by wearing clothes with embroidered flowers and vibrant colours, pinning flowers in their hair and handing out flowers to the public, becoming known as "flower children". The term was later used as a general term for the hippie movement. The picture shows a stylised lion merging with the shapes and colours of the hippies - a real flower lion. If you are a 68er or interested in this time, then this poster is for you.
