Every year the heather on Texel blossoms in an amazing way! The dunes turn purple and it smells wonderful. This picture was taken with a low sun just before sunset.
Especially in the nature reserves Bollekamer and De Geul large parts of the dunes of Texel are colored purple, but also in the Bleekersvallei and De Muy is flowering heather to admire.
The bushes have not suffered much from the currently very dry conditions, says forester Anna Sprenkeling. A lot of water fell at the beginning of the year and that has done the groundwater level good, although like last year it is still too low. But in the Geul- and Muyplassen there is still quite a bit of water.''
