Flowers in Earthly Silence by Color Square

The work depicts an abstract bouquet of large flower petals and organic forms, composed of a subdued palette of white, beige, grey, olive green and warm earth tones. The flowers are not rendered realistically, but reduced to overlapping planes that appear to be scattered across the canvas as loose fragments. As a result, the composition strikes a balance between a botanical scene and abstract art. A distinctive feature is the fine, parallel brushstrokes in many of the light-coloured petals. These lines consistently follow the direction of the form, lending the seemingly simple planes a surprising amount of movement and texture. Thicker layers of white paint contrast with more transparent beige and grey areas, creating an almost tangible relief.
Amidst the abundance of white, small dark shapes appear in deep green and almost black. They act as visual anchor points and make the lighter flowers stand out even more. Warm ochre and brown tones are found mainly amongst the petals, suggesting flower centres, shadows or withered leaves.
Also striking is the expansive grey background, which remains visible at the edges and lends a sense of calm to the exuberant central area. The result is a modern botanical artwork in which flowers are depicted not through detail, but through rhythm, material and form. Understated and natural, yet at the same time rich in subtle textures.
