About ‘Flowers in bottle, Dirck de Bray’
Flowers in a bottle, Dirck de Bray, 1674 brush in watercolour and oil Dirck de Bray was an all-rounder: he made etchings, woodcuts and sculpture, but became famous as a painter of flower still lifes. Unlike his contemporaries, he composed bouquets of flowers blooming at the same time of year. Here, these include white and blue aquilegia, yellow lily, peony, iris and bindweed. That not all the flowers have yet been put into the bouquet is also typical of De Bray.
