The fly agaric is a striking mushroom, which is common in the low countries. Eating it can lead to poisoning symptoms, but its severity is usually not that high.
With its red hat and white stem, the fly agaric is clearly a mushroom. But what is a mushroom anyway? The mushroom you see above the ground is actually only a small part of the creature. The creature we're talking about is a fungus. Most of the fungus is underground. It's called the mycelium. The mycelium is made up of all kinds of threads. Just like an apple tree gets apples, the mycelium gets fruit: the mushrooms!
