A super cute, happy little flying critter. Hand painted in primary colors with acrylic ink and paint on paper. By working in layers, and only letting the image emerge in the last layer, this little painting has a lot of depth and interesting shapes and colors. You can even see a little bit through the white layer and see the colors and shapes underneath.
I am always inspired by nature, especially animals. Insects were very much in evidence in my wildflower garden when I painted this, in the spring of 2022. I am always mesmerized by all the different colors, types and sizes of insects. Just look at a lavender bush and see the difference between the honey bee, the mestel bee and the bumblebee. Look at the snails on the ground; they don't like lavender, so it's a perfect plant to plant under your fruit tree or around your vegetable garden.
In everything I paint I try to convey emotion and atmosphere. I would like to give you the fresh, happy spring atmosphere that I felt when I saw this critter emerge on one of the first beautiful, sunny spring days. In the carpet pad is the emotion I felt at that moment. I painted the underlayment intuitively, I can't find the words to go with that. You can feel those.
