Flyby U.S. Navy Northrop Grumman E-2D Hawkeye.
The Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye is a US maritime aircraft that operates from aircraft carriers. It was developed by Grumman and is built by Northrop Grumman.
The E-2A Hawkeye, the first version of the Hawkeye, became operational in 1964. Due to various problems, the A-version was soon modernised into B-version. In 1973, the first C-version flew and underwent several upgrades over the years. As of 2010, the D-version, the Advanced Hawkeye, was delivered to the U.S. Navy.
Besides all-weather airborne early warning, the aircraft also performs other tasks such as:
- command & control functions for the carrier
battle group;
- coordination when guarding a sea area;
- coordination during attacks and interceptions;
- search and rescue coordination;
- flying liaison station.
