The largest insect in the Netherlands is the Flying Deer. These - up to 9 cm in size - beetles are extremely rare and are still found in old oak forests. Like the "real" deer, the males (as pictured here) hold battles for the favour of the females.
The "antlers" of the flying deer are actually jaws.
