The Ford GT40, sometimes referred to as the Ford GT40 Mk I, is a sports car from the American manufacturer Ford, 126 of which were built4 between 1964 and 1968. It enabled the American firm to win, among other things, the Le Mans 24 Hours on four successive occasions, from 1966 to 1969.
The name GT40 comes from the initials "GT" in the "Grand Touring" category, supplemented by the number "40" for its 40-inch (1.02 m) body height.
