Fort Amsterdam (1635) is Curacao's oldest building and is located at a strategic point at the entrance to the harbour. Fort Amsterdam is the largest of the island's eight forts.
A colourful, characteristic building, it is so typical of the island. The yellow colour shining in the bright sunlight is a nice contrast to the white parts and black wood.
From the Pondjesbrug, tourists walk into the Punda district, where they see the famous Penha house on their left and Fort Amsterdam on their right.
Fort Amsterdam is still in use as the seat of government of the country of Curacao.
