François Cevert, an angel who was knocked down mid-flight, briefly outlined his career. Cevert was tipped as Jackie Stewart's successor in 1974. On 6 October 1973, during practice for the United States Grand Prix, he was killed due to poor track safety.
I was 14 years old at the time, a time when Formula 1 was not yet attracting the attention of the general public. It was written about sparingly in newspapers and magazines.
Jackie Stewart and François Cevert were my heroes. His death made an impression, but did not stop me from continuing to follow the sport with great interest.
In the summer of 2013, the racing car of the 1973 Tyrrell Formula 1 team stood in the Parc fermé at Zandvoort. Through the fence, I took some photos's. From one of those photo's, I created this artwork in 2017. Cevert's distinctive helmet and his number 9 were added. Using different filters, this became the result, a tribute to my hero. Bingo!
During an exhibition at the Zandvoort circuit in 2018, John Dalane bought a print printed on aluminium of the Tyrrell Ford 006, which he owns.
Since then, this work has hung in his study somewhere on the coast near Los Angeles, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
