In France, tulips are generally grown outdoors, without the use of extra heat or artificial lighting, under natural conditions. Because of its more southerly location, with night temperatures of around 5 degrees Celsius and daytime temperatures of around 17 degrees Celsius, French tulips flower earlier than their Dutch counterparts. Although tulips in France need more time to grow, about 60 days, compared to the approximately 20 days needed for Dutch tulips, this relatively slow growth results in longer and more durable flowers in the vase.
