A geisha (Japanese: 芸者; /ˈgeːʃa/), geiko (芸子) or geigi (芸妓) is traditionally a Japanese artist's muse. The term geisha is generally used to refer to a society lady dressed in the typical, strictly stylized attire, who pleasantly enlivens a company's evening with classical Japanese music, song and dance. Literally, geisha means "art person".
