George Frederic Watts (1817-1904) was a British painter and sculptor who is considered one of the leading representatives of Victorian Symbolism. Known for his allegorical and monumental works, Watts often dealt with themes such as human destiny, morality and spiritual development. His best-known paintings include Hope and Love and Life. Watts was also active in sculpture and created numerous monuments, including the impressive memorial to the poet Alfred Tennyson.
