About ‘Giant'''s Causeway 2’ by Willem Klopper

The Giant’'s Causeway is een rotsformatie aan de noordoostkust van Noord-Ierland (Bushmills), die bestaat uit zo'n 40.000 basaltzuilen. De formatie staat sinds 1986 op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO. De rotsen zouden zijn ontstaan bij een vulkaanuitbarsting, zo'n 60 million years ago. The site is Northern Ireland’s most visited tourist attraction. Legend Legend has it that the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool) built a causeway across the sea to Scotland to fight his Scottish counterpart, Benandonner. As soon as Fionn arrives in Scotland, he realises that Benandonner is even more gigantic than himself and flees back to Ireland. Upon arriving there, pursued by the Scottish giant, McCool asks his wife to disguise him as a baby. When Benandonner arrives in Ireland, he sees the woman with the baby and is startled by the child’s size, assuming that the father of such a'n groot kind vele malen groter en sterker zal zijn dan hijzelf en hij vlucht terug naar Schotland. Op zijn vlucht vernielt Benandonner het pad. Alleen het begin in Ierland en het eind in Schotland (Fingal'’s Cave on the island of Staffa) still exist.
