About the artwork

This painting is open to different interpretations, partly due to the symbolism of the many objects that fill the scene and surround this enigmatic female figure who presses herself against her breast. For example, it has been suggested that this is an allegory of Melancholy or Science. However, it is probably philosophy that feeds and nourishes the various liberal arts: the armillary atmosphere refers to astronomy, the lute to music, the compass and the plumbing to geometry, mathematics and architecture, and the open books refer to the sciences in general. Finally, we can see how the woman holds the rod of authority and indeed philosophy feeds not only the arts (the pressed breast), but is also their top and queen (the sceptre).

The girl sits at the table in the portrait topless and holds her right tit.

Giovanni Serodine (1600 - 21 December 1630) was a Swiss-Italian painter from the early Baroque period. He was born in the canton of Ticino, now in Switzerland.

Caravaggianism is a movement in 17th-century painting. The movement cannot be described as a group, nor as a school, certainly not as a structured movement, but at most as Italian imitation, as influence. It is situated between the classicist rhetoric of the academies and the illusionist enthusiasm of the Baroque.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
