The giraffes are a genus of even-toed mammals in the family Giraffidae whose representatives occur in Africa. They are known for their long necks and the staining pattern on their coats. Together with their closest relative, the much smaller okapi, which has a chestnut body, striped legs and a spotted head, the giraffes form the family Giraffidae.
