In 2000, Tuscany was the backdrop for some scenes from Gladiator, the now famous American film from 2000 set in Roman times. Written by David Franzoni and directed by Ridley Scott, the film tells a fictional story inspired by Emperor Commodus and his father Marcus Aurelius. Some famous scenes were recorded near Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia. This is the dirt road that leads from the Pieve di Corsignano to Podere Terrapille. A place that appears a few times in the film.
