One of the most famous bridges in the world, the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The striking orange color is the original color of the primer. When the steel was brought in, the architect, Irving Morrow decided to keep this color. It fit well with the surrounded but especially since this color is easy to see the fog this color was chosen.
This photo shows one of the 2 center pillars of this suspension bridge, the southernmost one. At the top of this pillar you can see the 90 cm thick steel cable from which the bridge deck hangs. The cables each consist of 28,000 small cables. A total of 128,000 km of steel wire was used. Also to be seen are the lights that illuminate the tower.
