The richly decorated temple pillars of the Ubosot of Wat Chana Songkhram stretch along the façade like a golden breath glowing in the first light of dawn, each one a silent guardian of ancient craftsmanship. In the filigree Lai Kranok pattern, which winds across the pillars like a dancing flame, pieces of glass shimmer in green, blue and gold, as if they were fragments of a coloured sky, carefully set into the architecture.
These pillars - Sao, as they are called in Thai - not only bear the roof of a temple, but also the memory of the Rattanakosin period, in which art unfolded in lavish elegance. The forms rise and fall like waves captured in golden lines, and the ornaments seem to breathe, flicker and flow in the changing light.
Between all the splendour lies a quiet dignity. The ornamentation speaks without words of devotion, faith and the pursuit of perfection that guided the hands of the artisans. Here, in the centre of Phra Nakhon, where life pulsates around the temple walls, these pillars stand like a poem of light and stone - a precious rhythm that transcends time and touches visitors with a touch of eternity.
