Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.
The artwork appears at its true size, so you cannot scale it in AR. Want a different size? Close AR and pick the size on the product page.
Still nothing? Open this page in Chrome or Safari. AR does not work in the browser of apps such as Instagram or Facebook.

About ‘Golden silence.’ by Joes van Asten

The photograph shows the ancient underground rainwater reservoir beneath the Real Alcázar in Seville.

An almost endless series of pointed arches slowly draws the eye towards the light at the end of this mysterious place. The warm ochre-yellow of the walls and vaults lends the space an almost golden glow, as if the light were being held captive here.

The repetition of the arches creates a strong rhythm, whilst the central symmetry lends the scene a meditative tranquillity. The reflection in the still water is particularly striking. The arches are mirrored in it, creating a second, inverted reality in which reflection and reality are seamlessly intertwined.

The weathered walls, with their flaking layers and irregular texture, reveal that behind the beauty and the golden light lies a world of decay and the ravages of time.

The photograph strikes a balance between dark and light, between reality and reflection, between beauty and decay.
The strong symmetry naturally draws the eye towards the mysterious focal point.
