Bad Kösen is a district of the town of Naumburg (Saale) in the Burgenland district of Saxony-Anhalt. Brine deposits were tapped here as early as the end of the 17th century.
The graduation house in Bad Kösen is 320 metres long, 18 to 20 metres high and was built between 1779 and 1780. Bathing operations began here in 1819 and the town of Kösen has had the title of spa in its name since 1935. The graduation house is still used for spa and recreational purposes today.
The Burgenland district lies on the southern border of Saxony-Anhalt. The district town of Naumburg with its world-famous St. Peter and Paul Cathedral forms the centre of the Burgenland district. Other tourist attractions include the impressive castles and numerous fortresses that give the district its name. The landscape is hilly and is characterised by the rivers Saale, Unstrut and Weiße Elster. Viticulture is practised in the Saale-Unstrut region.
Saxony-Anhalt is located in the centre of Germany and Central Europe. The two largest cities in the state are the state capital Magdeburg and Halle (Saale).
