About ‘Grande Arche – La Défense, Paris’ by Martin Tromp

La Grande Arche: An iconic, open, cube-shaped monument 110 metres high, situated in a straight line on the Axe Historique (the historic axis that runs all the way to the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre).

The architect of La Grande Arche is the Dane Johan Otto von Spreckelsen.
• Lead designer: Johan Otto von Spreckelsen won the competition for the monument in 1983. He died in 1987, before the building was completed in 1989.
• Continuation: Following his death, the Danish/French architect Paul Andreu took over to complete the construction (from 1987 to 1989).
• Engineer: The Danish engineer Erik Reitzel was responsible for the structural calculations
