A Great Plains Rattlesnake coiled up in a defensive posture. The Great Plains Rattlesnake is endemic to the United States. Its habitat includes forests, scrublands, grasslands, rocky environments and in both temperate and hot deserts. This snake has a has a very strong venom that attacks blood and tissues, called haemotoxin. Its diet consists of small mammals such as mice, but also includes lizards and birds, whose nests the snake also plunders.
