Green Banana and Lemon

by Marieke Wouters

‘Green Banana and Lemon’ shows how a simple still life can contain a world of colour, tranquillity and wonder. A green banana and a lemon rest together in an elegant bowl, whilst the soft shades of blue, green and yellow lend the composition a fresh and light feel. The decorative bowl and the cosy chair in the background add a homely charm that makes the work both playful and refined.

The atmosphere of this collage is calm and optimistic. The combination of the banana’s still-unripe green and the lemon’s bright yellow suggests growth, change and the joy of simple everyday moments. The work invites us to look more closely at the beauty of ordinary objects that often seem taken for granted.

The inspiration for this collage stems from everyday life. A fruit bowl on the table, a chair in the morning light, colours that unexpectedly enhance one another. From these simple observations emerges an image that reflects the spirit of simple living, in which slowing down, mindfulness and an appreciation for the little things take centre stage.

The work is composed of hand-torn printed paper forms, combined with painted layers and subtle textures. The visible edges and soft colour transitions give the collage an artisanal feel and a striking tactile quality. Green Banana and Lemon fits beautifully into a Scandinavian interior, a modern colourful interior or a Mediterranean style of living. It appeals to art lovers who appreciate contemporary collage art, fruit still lifes and wall art with a fresh and light feel.
