The Green Needle and the Drus in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France
Peaking at 4,122 metres, the Aiguille Verte takes its name from the blue-green hue of the ice that covers the summit when the sun shines on it from the side.
"Before the Verte you are a mountaineer, at the Verte you become a mountaineer... » ? Gaston Rébuffat
The Drus comprise two individual peaks: the Grand Dru (3,754 m, the highest point) and the Petit Dru (3,730 m), which dominates the Montenvers and has a granite wall 1,000 metres high, one of the steepest walls in the Alps.
Winter photography. The whitened wall of the collapsed Bonatti pillar is clearly visible.
